Custom
lettering

Explore hand-written lettering on a selected gaiwan or cup. The method, placement, origin and proof process depend on the actual piece; we confirm them before work begins.

Two methods[2]

Hand-written釉上彩

Selected gaiwan and cups; confirm the surface first

The characters are painted onto the finished glaze in overglaze enamel, then fired again at low heat to fix them. A person writes them with a brush, so the strokes carry pressure and release — they are not set type.

Overglaze lettering may be possible on an already-fired piece if the material and surface are suitable. Confirm availability and care for that item; metallic decoration must not go in a microwave.

Laser engraved激光雕刻

Selected cup shapes with a suitable surface

A laser cuts the line into the glaze itself: even depth, clean edges, and the same result every time. It suits logos, regular type, and any job where several pieces have to match exactly.

A laser produces a more regular mark than brushwork. We check the result on the actual glaze and confirm care instructions for the selected piece.

Confirm by order

Before you decide

Overglaze enamel sits on top of the glaze, not under it. So a lettered piece must not go in a microwave, and wants hand washing. That is the trade: because the enamel is on the surface, we can write on a pot that is already fired and waiting, instead of starting a new kiln load.

We do not offer voluntary change-of-mind returns or exchanges, including for lettered pieces. Please check the agreed proof before work begins. If a piece arrives damaged or does not match the agreed specification, contact us so we can review the appropriate remedy under our returns and breakage policy.
